RENNIE DISCUSSION GROUP

TUESDAY May 13, 2008

Our Next Rennie Discussion Speaker on May 13 will be Paul Galop, Commissioner of the Cape Cod Baseball League. This will be a timely opportunity for our OMC members to find out about the most cost effective sports entertainment on Cape Cod for summer fun for the whole family! The Red Sox may be on a roll, but travel, tickets, parking, and a Fenway Frank will cost a fortune!

Why not see the next generation of fine baseball athletes do their thing right in your own back yard at little or no expense.

Learn how to do this in the summer 0f '08 from the man who runs this Cape Cod League and where the players come from, where they live while on the Cape, what they do besides baseball while here, and what playing in the Cape Cod League does for their careers. Come to the Osterville Library at 10:00 AM on May 13 Th. and hear an informative presentation from a man who know, and ask whatever questions you want about perhaps the Cape's best kept secret!                        PLAY BALL!!!

2008 Annual Scholarship Report  Chair Ken Ballou

The Osterville Men's Club annually awards $13,000 in scholarships to qualified graduating seniors at Barnstable High School in the form of five $2000 awards and one $3000 award in memory of Robert Grunewald.

The recipients receive their checks after they present first semester transcripts certifying they are in good standing. In actuality, the overwhelming majority have become honor students in college. The youngsters have attended a wide array of both private and public institutions including Duke, McGill, Harvard, B.C., B.U., Northeastern, Stonehill, U. Mass, U. of Texas, the U. of Virginia just to name a few.

Those selected are usually in  the top 5-10 percent of the senior class, have above average College Board examination scores, strong backgrounds in school and community activities, demonstrate financial need and create highly favorable interview impressions.

The Class of 2007 winners have all received their checks and have again proven to be outstanding college students and citizens. This spring the Class of 2008 submitted 55 applications for our six scholarships-a very strong ratio of better than 9-1. The committee recently completed the review process and selected the following six recipients.

ELIZABETH RUBINO of Hyannis received the $3000 Robert Grunewald award and plans to major in Business Administration at Stonehill College.

MELANIE BLACK of Centerville received a $2000 award and plans to major in Pre-Medicine at Boston University.

ABIGAIL DREIER of Cummaquid received a $2000 award and will major in Art and Illustration at the Art Institute of Chicago.

DEVIN MACDONALD of Centerville received a $2000 award and will major in Engineering at Northeastern University.

OMC HOLIDAY PARTY

DECEMBER  WILLOWBEND COUNTRY CLUB

A Grand crowd (~190 members and guests) gathered Friday evening to welcome The 2007 Holiday Season

Judging by the joyous spirit, the crowded dance floor, and smiling faces, it was a most successful event.

Tom and Nancy Kelly did a fantastic job in organizing the function. Everything ran so smoothly.

Director Ron Dunn and the OMC “Stout Hearted” SINGERS presented a trio of Carols and the vocal gathers joined in for many more.

LETS SING!

The Osterville Men’s Club Singers were organized by Bob MacFadyen.

ABOUT OMC

It's about getting together to have a good time. The Osterville Men's Club is kept small enough to give every member a sense of place. Thus the 250-man limit, written into the bylaws of the club, is not likely to be raised any time soon. The good news is that the Club has a very liberal “Waiting List” policy, in that such individuals enjoy most all club privileges such as golf and bowling outings. The one positive exception is that one must be “invited and accompanied” by one’s sponsoring member at regular monthly meetings. The Club enjoys more than 300 combined Active Members, Associate Members, and Waiting List Individuals. It is not unusual to have 160 or more happy members and guest adorning jackets and ties at a monthly meeting. Camaraderie, friendship and fellowship are most commonly ranked at the top of the Most Positive Club Attributes/Strengths.
